Experimenting With Acrylic Paint
So My art journey has been wild and weird since I started on it three years ago. I've done digital art on my tablet for the past year or so because it was just easier and cleaner and we don't have tons of room in my house for canvases for as many times as I was painting.
I have an art show coming up next week I'm taking a bunch of prints, and I'm excited for it. Today one of the organizers asked me about showing and doing a live paint demo at their gallery. I told him I'd love to, but he wasn't sure about the digital art for the live paint demo. So I got an idea. Dangerous I know.
We have a bunch of craft paint around the house and paint markers from when I was using them before and my wife's own craft projects. I also still had a bunch of unused canvases, so I went outside with an 11x14 canvas to see what kind of mess I could make. I have to say it was way more fun than I thought it would be and I'm quite happy with the turnout.

Once I got set up, I tried different things with a foam brush. I didn't want do just pouring like I've seen, i wanted to somewhat control the paint, but still do abstract. So I just squirted several blobs of paint onto the canvas and just kind of intuitively see where it took me. First It was kind of a mess and I only had a few colors to work with.

It looks cool but not quite what I was going for, it all just kind of looks smeared. So I let that dry a few minutes and added a few new colors. From there figuring out the foam brush has different sized and shapes, instead of brushing the paint, I'd dab it, flick it and shape it different ways that created some really cool texture.

I'm really happy with how it turned out and it looks almost 3D looking at it in person. Knowing I have my art show next week, I think I'm going to get more colors, a larger set of foam brushes and a set of pallette knives so I can do a lot of different mixes and textures on different size canvas and have a good variety of things to take to the art show next week, and hopefully get into a gallery or two. Maybe I'm getting head of myself but this was a lot of fun and I feel the end result is really nice. Plus at the art show, people may want to buy an original over a print as its more unique. So, we'll see how it all goes, but I'm excited to see what happens next.
I'm updating this blog to show I've gotten more paint and more canvases and tools and creating some pretty cool things. Sitting on my front stoop until my art room is ready, I painted this one yesterday

I started out with too much black as I wasn't used to how far a little paint can go. I got it fixed though and I'm really happy with it.
Today I worked on this piece. I find using pallette knives and swiping and smoothing can be very relaxing. The only hard parts for me is waiting on layers to dry

Also quite happy with this one. I have a few of these available in my shop. This one is Porch Creations: Vibrant Abstract Canvas.
This would look beautiful in most homes. I want to thank you all again for visiting me in my art journey. I'll be back soon with more paintings.
